POLICE OFFICER-3 POSITIONS

Performs responsible protective service work in the protection of life and property through enforcement of laws and ordinances involving an element of danger. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States, at least 21 years of age, and have any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and enrolled in or completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) as mandated by the North Carolina Education and Training Standards Division. Hours worked by rotating shifts. Applicant will be required to complete a background investigation, CVSA examination, physical, drug screening exam and psychological examination. One year State-required probationary status. Beginning Salary Range: $31,326.36 to $32,891.04, depending upon education and experience. Five percent salary increase possible upon successful completion of a Town-required six-month probationary period depending upon starting salary. Possibility for annual Cost-of-Living-Adjustment, merit increases, and career ladder program increases. Only qualified applicants should apply.

POLICE SERGEANT

Performs and supervises responsible protective service work in the protection of life and property through enforcement of laws and ordinances involving an element of danger. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a lieutenant. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and have been awarded the Intermediate Law Enforcement Certificate by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. In addition, applicants must have completed a minimum of 40 hours training in Commission approved courses in each of the following categories: Community Policing, Traffic Enforcement, Investigations, other law enforcement topics. Must complete 40 hours of supervisory training within 12 months of hire. Hours worked by rotating shifts. Applicants will be required to complete a background investigation, physical, drug screening, psychological examination and polygraph examination. Hiring salary range is $36,267.92 - $38,079.08. A 5% increase is possible after the completion of a Town-required six-month probationary period. Possibility for annual Cost-of-Living-Adjustment and merit increases. City Manager

Town of Smithfield, NC, 2007 pop. 12,456. Competitive salary and benefits. Smithfield is the County Seat, located along the banks of the Neuse River and along the I-95 corridor. The Town Council consists of one mayor and seven councilmen, elected for 4 years, non-partisan and staggered terms. Responsibilities include supervision and management of 182 full-time employees in the Departments of Administration, Police, Emergency Services (Fire, Rescue and EMS), Parks & Recreation, Public Utilities (Water Plant, Water & Sewer, and Electric), and Public Works (Appearance, Sanitation, Streets, Garage and Drainage) as well as management of a $44M budget. Current mgr is retiring. The ideal candidate should have considerable experience in economic development issues, utility system operation, budgeting, financial management, and public water and sewer administration. .

Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to manage an experienced management team. Requires a Master’s degree, significant public management experience and a history of stable tenure.

Aquatics Center Supervisor

This position performs management and administrative work in planning and directing a year-round comprehensive aquatics program for the Town of Smithfield to include one outdoor pool and one indoor competition pool and kid’s play pool. Essential Functions/Tasks includes but is not limited to: Responsible for directing, coordinating, developing, and promoting citywide aquatics programs for special groups, individuals, senior citizens, disabled persons, swim clubs, SSS high school swim team, etc.; Organizing and conducting special training classes and special events; supervising the marketing and promotion of the Aquatics Center (includes developing said materials); developing and monitoring the aquatics budget for both pools to include projected revenues and expenditures; trains, supervises, schedules and monitors the work of part-time and volunteer aquatics staff; supervises the scheduling of the aquatics areas to maintain a balance among general public use and scheduled programs, rentals, school use, etc; responsible for informing general public of scheduled events/programs, which may interfere with general use; develops, supervises and maintains safety standards for the aquatics areas and monitors compliance; develops, oversees and monitors a comprehensive pool maintenance program that maintains high water quality and facility cleanliness in accordance with health department rules and regulations; makes decisions on application of chemicals and maintenance repair of equipment; develops maintenance guidelines and insures compliance; and oversees swim meets/events and coordinates facility staffing, security, crowd control

Candidate must have a BA or BS degree in recreation management, physical education, or related field and at least 3 years of experience in the aquatics field; prefer individuals with aquatics managerial experience; possession of current Red Cross or YMCA lifeguard training, first aid, CPR, and AED; training as a pool operator (AFO or CPO), LGI, WSI are required or candidates must be willing to obtain within probationary period. Considerable knowledge in developing, planning and promotion of public aquatics programs/activities, including knowledge of pool safety and health regulations; considerable knowledge of regulations governing water treatment, chemical requirements and filtration operations; ability to determine community aquatic programs needs and implementation of programs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, community groups, high school swim team, etc.; possess oral and written report capabilities.

Salary Range: $34528.00 - $36267.92
