The Investigative Team is made up of a group of officers who are specialized in criminal investigations and illegal narcotics enforcement. This team consists of four (4) general investigators, two narcotics investigators, and is commanded by a fourth general investigator, Lt. K. Powell.
Our investigators are responsible for processing their own crime scenes and are trained to perform these special duties. Some crime scenes are more in-depth than others and our investigators may need more of the advanced technology now being used for crime scene processing. In cases such as these, we often call upon the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation for crime scene assistance. In addition, our investigators work closely with the Office of the District Attorney during case preparation. Proper and comprehensive crime scene processing and case preparation are keys to successful prosecution of violators.
General investigators are assigned major felonies and other less serious crimes for follow-up investigations. Some of these cases include murder, rape, robbery, assaults, child abuse and neglect, frauds, thefts and more serious misdemeanors. These are typically crimes that require more detailed follow-up investigations and are more time consuming. If you have questions about a specific case being investigated by our department you can contact the investigating officer either via their E-mail or by phone.
Drug investigators primarily focus upon suppression of drug sales/use and related activities through the application of various investigative tactics. These investigators conduct random enforcement campaigns to include undercover purchases, surveillance, and the suppression of street level drug sales.
