Important Notice
Pursuant to the new Animal Control Ordinance adopted by the Town Council on February 7, 2006 all residents are required to purchase licenses for dogs and cats living in the city limits. The cost of these licenses are $5 for a spayed or neutered pet and $10 for a non-spayed or neutered pet. These tags must be worn by your pet at all times. These tags may be purchased at Town Hall, Planning Department, with proof of a current rabies vaccination.

The Smithfield Police Department’s Animal Control Officer investigates domestic animal complaints and other animal related calls for service. This includes animal bites, strays, dangerous and nuisance animals, dogs and cats running at large, sick or injured animals, animal welfare checks and the occasional wildlife complaint. The Animal Control Officer assists the county in the control and spread of Rabies.
If you have animal related issues and need assistance from our Animal Control Officer you should call Johnston County Emergency Communications at 911. The operator will take your information and dispatch the officer to your location. Animal Control is available to respond Monday - Friday, from 7 AM until 4 PM. After hours emergencies will be handled by a police officer. Questions or inquiries should be directed to:
