The office of town clerk is responsible for attending all meetings of the town council and recording official actions; scheduling citizens for appearance before town council; providing information concerning council activities; acting as custodian of all legal documents pertaining to the town; preparing and publishing town ordinances, resolutions and notices of public hearings as required by law; preparing the council agenda; codifying the Code of Ordinances; administering oaths of office; providing administrative support to the mayor and town council; overseeing the town's electoral process; coordinating town council appointments to their advisory boards; and keeping track of and coordinating citizens' appointments to the town's advisory boards.
The office of town clerk is also tasked with overseeing building repairs and maintenance to the town hall facility and the town's telephone system. This office deals with questions, concerns, issues and problems relating to the town and town services, employees, administrative staff and town council.
The town clerk is also responsible for the administration of the human resources function for 182 full-time and 110 part-time employees. This includes but is not limited to: recruitment and selection, staff support, employee relations, competitive pay administration, insurance benefits administration, workers' compensation administration, payroll and classification, employee assistance programs: FMLA: FSLA: EEO, investigates employee and citizen complaints and grievances, and administers the town's grievance process. Provides safety, wellness and fitness support to the mayor and town council, oversees the town's electoral process, coordinates city council appointments to their advisory boards, and keeps track of and coordinates citizens' appointments to the town's advisory boards.
