Hurricane Florence Update

Hurricane Florence is not upon us at this time, but now is the time to prepare.  Please visit our website

www.smithfield-nc.com and follow us Twitter and Facebook for updates.

We hope that all citizens are safe in the coming days.  Please see the following updates so that we may possibly answer any questions in advance.  As Fire Chief John Blanton says, “Don’t panic, but be prepared.”

Beginning tomorrow, September 13th, the Town intends to issue updated public/press releases two times per day.  They will follow updates from the National Weather Service and will include any updates available from each of our departments.

The most recent update shows Hurricane Florence tracking a little to our south, but not with much certainty. We still expect to be heavily impacted.

Essential staff in all departments are either scheduled or on stand-by to assist our citizens.

Electric Utilities:
All operations are currently normal.  All necessary precautions have been taken. For any Utility outages or concerns, please call 919-934-1117.

Water Utilities:
All operations are currently normal.  All necessary precautions have been taken.  For any Utility outages or concerns, please call 919-934-1117.

Safety and Emergency Services:
For any emergencies, please call 911.

Public Works:
Trash and yard debris services are expected to remain as normal throughout this week. However, you may experience some delays as crews may have to modify their schedule to adhere to emergency issues should they arise. Convenience Site Center at 231 Hospital Road will be closed on Sat. Sept. 15, 2018 as a result of Hurricane Florence and the potential risk of flooding in the area. Please secure all rollout containers to keep them from blowing away and getting lost.

Parks & Recreation:
The Smithfield Recreation and Aquatic Center remains operating on normal hours at this time, but will likely be amended should Hurricane Florence adversely impact our area.

Public Schools:
Johnston County Schools and Neuse Charter School are scheduled to be closed Thursday and Friday.

Curfew:
There is no curfew in effect for the Town of Smithfield.
