We strive to promote quality parks and recreational activities for all of our citizens. We believe in active, healthy lifestyles and will continue to enhance the quality of life of our citizens by providing unsurpassed programs and activities.

Our Vision...
Is to develop a close-knit community by encouraging parent-child connection, family togetherness and peer interaction. To create fun, safe, desirable places to play; and through this central theme of growth, fitness and recreation, truly be “The Unity of Our Community”!

A note from the director, Tim Johnson:
As your Parks and Recreation Department, our goal is to promote Active, Healthy Lifestyles. In doing so, we strive to offer activities and programs for all ages– from inquisitive pre-schoolers to active seniors. Our department also strives to focus on the importance of togetherness within our tight-knit community, sponsoring events such as the Daddy-Daughter Dance, Easter Egg Hunt, The “Friends of the Fourth” Celebration, Fall Harvest Fair, Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and the Smithfield Christmas Parade. In addition to these and many other special events, along with our extensive youth and adult sports programs, our instructional classes and an exciting outdoor adventure program, it is easy to see how the Parks and Recreation Department is considered “The Unity of Our Community”!
