Recycling Information
Recycling is a free service offered by the Town of Smithfield. Residents can dispose of their recyclables at the Convenience Site located at the Public Works Garage, 231 Hospital Road.
Operating hours are Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Residents can recycle the following items:
- Glass - All clear, brown, and green glass food or beverage containers. Remove lids and rinse.
- Plastic - #1 and #2 plastics (milk, soft drink, detergent) Remove lids and rinse.
- Newspaper - Newspaper print only. Remove all bags and strings.
- Aluminum - Beverage cans only. Rinse clean.
- Magazines - Remove all strings and bags
- Cardboard - Cardboard and phone books. Remove packing material and flatten boxes.
- Fluorescent Light Bulbs- Fluorescent light bulbs can be recycled at the convenience site. See attendant for assistance.
- Paint will be accepted if it has been solidified. Adding an absorbent such as cat litter or sand to the paint and allowing it to dry and harden can accomplish this.
Residents can also dispose of household and yard waste at the convenience site that was not collected on their scheduled collection days.
