Holiday and Annual Events

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, effective at 5:00 pm on March 16, all Smithfield Parks and Recreation indoor facilities, including the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center and the Sarah Yard Community Center will be closed and all programming, including classes, events and camps are cancelled until further notice.  All indoor facility rentals are cancelled until further notice.  Park facility rentals, including shelter rentals and athletic field rentals are cancelled until further notice.   

This action follows the Center for Disease Control recommendations and Governor Cooper’s executive order restricting public gatherings and is being taken to encourage social distancing and to prioritize the health of our community.  As this situation continues to evolve and we continue to monitor the situation, additional announcements and notices should be expected.

The following events may or may not be held due to COVID-19:

Pumpkin Carving Contest

Show us your pumpkin carving skills. 1st place a $50 Walmart gift card. Email a picture of your carved pumpkin to tiffany.pearson@smithfield-nc.com. We will post a picture of your carved pumpkin on our Facebook page Smithfield Parks & Recreation. All pictures must be submitted by October 25th. The competition will take place from October 26th-30th. 1 like = 1 vote. Likes and 2 judges will determine who wins the prize on October 30th/upload/page/0060/pumpkin carving contest.jpg

VIRTUAL COSTUME CONTEST

Saturday, October 31st 11am-7pm submit a picture in your Halloween finery via email to tiffany.pearson@smithfield-nc.com. Top 3 costumes will be awarded prizes and posted on the Smithfield Parks and Recreation Facebook page. Prizes to be awarded on Monday, November 2nd/upload/page/0060/costume contest.jpg

 

EASTER EGG HUNT(CANCELLED)

Sunday, April 5, 2020               Time: 3:00pm

The Easter Bunny will be in town... bring your Easter Baskets and collect Easter Eggs and meet the Easter Bunny!  This event is for kids between the ages of 2-7.  (Different ages will be on different fields.)  Don't be late, or you'll miss this one!!    Egg Hunt will be on Baseball/Softball Fields at Smithfield Community Park.   

 

MOTHER-SON DANCE (POSTPONED) 

Saturday, April 18, 2020               6:30-8:30pm

Not to be outdone by dads and their daughters, moms and their sons can enjoy a night out together too!  Join us for an evening of music, dancing, treats and a photo booth!  Minimum of 20 couples required for this to make.  Registration Ends 4/3/2020.

POOCHA PALOOZA (POSTPONED)

Saturday, April 25, 2020               11:00am-1:00pm

Looking for a good time for your little four legged family members and friends... come out to the 2nd Street Dog Park (Corner of 2nd & Holding Streets) on Saturday, April 25th, and join us for our 2nd Annual Poocha Palooza!!!  Enjoy music, food trucks, dog vendors, and competitions for Best Dressed and Best Trick!!  You dogs will enjoy seeing other pets and you'll have a good time too!
