Code Enforcement Assistant (Temporary Part-Time)  

 

Performs inspection work to ensure compliance of properties within the Town maintain the minimum nuisance and landscape appearance standards and other similar duties, as assigned. Professionalism, tact, courtesy, and firmness must be exercised in performing this work.  Work subjects the employee to outside environmental conditions; extremes in temperature; other hazards associated with inspections work. Work is performed under the supervision of the Zoning and Compliance Officer. Training will be provided. Must be comfortable working both independently and as a team. Employee will work 10-30 hours per week through August 2024.

 

Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License. Pre-employment drug screen, fit-for-duty testing, and driver’s license check may apply.


Hiring Wage:                           $15.00/Hr.

Utility Line Mechanic

 

The Town of Smithfield is seeking to fill the position of Utility Line Mechanic.  An employee in this position performs a variety of semi-skilled work as a member of the Water/Sewer Crew engaged in the construction, installation and repair of water and sewer lines.  Work involves the operation of construction equipment in the installation, replacement and repair of water and sewer pipes to specific grade and depth, and operation of video camera to film sewer lines.  Work also includes making taps to water and sewer system.  

 

Employees are subject to working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation, and oils.  Work is also subject to the final standards of OSHA on bloodborne pathogens.  Employees are also subject to on-call and call-back work.  Work is performed under regular supervision and is evaluated through observation and inspection for adherence to instructions and standards trade and safety practices.  

 

Duties:  Operates tapping machine to make water and sewer taps and service connections. Lays water and sewer pipe; adjusts pipe to proper grade and depth following stakes; repairs and replaces sewer and water lines and related facilities. Installs, services and tests water meters and meter yokes. Operates the sewer rodder and pressure jet to unstop sewer lines. Operates front end loader, dump trucks, jackhammers, tampers, pipe threading machines, tapping machines, trenchers, air compressors, and boring machine. Installs hydrants, meter valves, clamps, and related pipeline apparatus; sets meter boxes; repairs and replaces fire hydrants. Performs other tasks as required. 

 

Requires possession of valid NC driver’s license and must possess or obtain a valid NC Commercial driver’s license with six months to continue employment.  Applicant shall be required to complete a drug screen, background check and fit-for-duty test with acceptable results. Starting Salary: $17.37-$18.24/hr. – DOQ/E ($36,129.60+ Annually)

Police Officer I - $5,000 Sign-on Bonus

Performs responsible protective service work in the protection of life and property through enforcement of laws and ordinances involving an element of danger. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States, at least 21 years of age and have any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is preferred. Fully qualified candidates may qualify for a Sign-on Bonus. Hours worked by rotating shifts.

 

Applicant will be required to complete a background investigation, CVSA examination, physical, drug screening exam and psychological examination.  One year State-required probationary status. Minimum Starting Salary:           $49,773.36/year (DOE/Q)
