The Town of Smithfield Sanitation Department schedule for Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be as follows:
Household waste and yard debris collections for Monday, January 16, 2012 will be collected on Wednesday, January 18, 2012.
All other customers will have their household waste and yard debris collected on their regular scheduled day. Please have your curbside container and or all debris at curbside after 5:00pm on the day before your collection day. All curbside containers must be removed from curbside no later than 8:00am on the day after collection.

SMOKE TESTING OF SANITARY SEWERS
IN THE HWY 70 AREA EAST OF I-95
The Town of Smithfield’s Public Utilities Department will be conducting a smoke test of its sewer distribution system in the vicinities of Hwy 70 East and Yelverton Church Rd to locate areas where storm water or other surface water is entering the sewer collection system. This test is scheduled for the weeks of January 9 and January 16.

The Town of Smithfield in conjunction with the American Legion and the Boy Scouts is offering US Flag Disposal and Proper Retirement of the US Flag at 231 Hospital Road Recycling Center
The Town of Smithfield is proud to offer the convenience of US Flag disposal at the Town of Smithfield Recycling Center. The site has been created to have a repository for old/worn US Flags. Flags that are placed in these bins are collected and destroyed in a dignified manner. The flag should not be disposed of in your household waste container or placed on the ground for pickup.
