The Town of Smithfield will implement updated trash collection requirements beginning December 29, 2025, aimed at improving safety, cleanliness, and overall efficiency of waste collection services.

Under the new policy, only Town-issued trash cans will be serviced. Personal containers of any size or material (metal, plastic, or otherwise) will no longer be collected. This update applies to all residential customers, including those utilizing backyard pickup.

To ensure proper collection, all household garbage must properly bagged and placed inside Town-issued containers. Residents who require additional trash cans or have overflow garbage can contact the Town of Smithfield Public Works Department at 919-934-2596. Additional cans are subject to monthly service fees.
