We assist with a variety of planning and development services, including:

Zoning & Land Use – Ensuring properties are used in accordance with the Town's Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).

Code Enforcement – Helping maintain safe, clean, and attractive neighborhoods.

Rezoning Applications – Processing requests to change zoning districts.

Subdivision Review – Reviewing land divisions and development proposals.

Starting a New Business in Smithfield
Before opening your business, all applicable approvals must be completed. Follow the steps below to begin the process.
Step 1: Apply for a Zoning Permit
Every new business, change of tenant, or change of ownership must obtain a Zoning Permit from the Town of Smithfield Planning & Zoning Department before opening or operating.

Step 2: Obtain a Building Inspection (If Required)
Some businesses may require a building permit and inspection before occupancy.

Step 3: Schedule a Fire Inspection (If Required)
If your business requires a fire inspection:

Complete the Fire Inspection Application.

Step 4: Establish Utility Service
Once all required approvals have been completed, establish utility service with the Town of Smithfield.
