The Public Works Department is located at 231 Hospital Road in the Public Works Building. Hours of business are Monday - Friday 7:00am - 5:00pm. After Hours Emergency Number: After business hours Monday - Friday 5:00pm - 7:00am, Saturday and Sunday (919) 934-1117

The Public Works Department is responsible for several tasks including, but not limited to:

Sanitation & Yard Debris Division
The Public Works Sanitation Division is responsible for the collection and disposal of residential household waste, yard waste and tree debris, Furniture and Appliances. The residential areas are divided into four collection zones for pick-up. Each zone will be collected once weekly.
Please have your curbside container and or all debris at curbside after 5:00pm on the day before your scheduled collection day. All curbside containers must be removed from curbside no later than 8:00am on the day after collection.

Appearance Division
The Appearance Division is responsible for maintenance of buildings and grounds, contractual services, maintenance of cemeteries and mausoleums, cemetery lot sales, grave openings and closings, funeral arrangements, town surplus, Christmas decorations and banners.

Drainage/Street Division
The Drainage Division is responsible for ditch cleaning and drainage issues, asphalt maintenance and repair (utility cuts and potholes), sidewalk maintenance and repair, resurfacing contracts, right of ways, street signs and markings, plan review for new development, public health control (mosquito).

Fleet Maintenance Division
The Fleet Maintenance Division provides preventative maintenance and repair service for all town owned vehicles and equipment.
