Last night (Tuesday, March 17th), Smithfield Mayor Andy Moore declared a State of Emergency in response to COVID-19. Mayor Moore said, “This decision is not made lightly, nor is it made to cause fear or panic with our citizens. This declaration is meant as an administrative action that allows Smithfield to access federal funds, if needed, for any loss of revenues or increased expenses that may occur during this time.”
The declaration also allows Mayor Moore to more quickly make any decisions necessary regarding public safety and the well-being of our citizens.
Additionally, in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are asking citizens and visitors to refrain from visiting Smithfield’s public buildings, including Town Hall. Customers are encouraged to pay utility bills by using one of the drop boxes at Town Hall, paying online at smithfield-nc.com or by phone at 1-855-603-9197 (credit/debit payments only). Thank you for your patience as we all work together to get through this crisis.
The State of Emergency will remain in effect until further notice.
