The Town of Smithfield is studying the transportation conditions in its downtown. The primary study area will be Smithfield’s Downtown Municipal Service District, from the Neuse River to Brightleaf Boulevard.

The project will take place over 12 months and will assess the following: 

• Traffic levels and flow 
• Parking needs 
• Bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure improvements 
• Urban design solutions 
  
  

The goal of the study is to create a more vibrant downtown that is accessible to all types of transportation while also optimizing safety and traffic flow on US-70 Business (Market Street).  The result of the Study will be a report summarizing the existing conditions in Downtown Smithfield, public feedback received during the study, recommended projects to improve or enhance transportation downtown, and implementation strategies.
