Downtown Smithfield Wine Walk TOMORROW!

 

Harbor Shelter will host the 9th annual Downtown Smithfield Wine Walk, a wine tasting to raise money for Harbor and its programs tomorrow evening, November 15th, from 5-9pm. You can visit approximately twenty businesses in downtown Smithfield and sample a different wine at each location.

 

Walkers will begin at Harbor Shelter’s Pizazz, located at 119 North Third Street. There, walkers will have their IDs checked and be given commemorative wine glasses and a wristband to wear, which will allow them to taste different wines at the participating businesses. Advance tickets can still be ordered and are $20 (a $5 savings). Order online at www.harborshelter.org.

 

 

Smithfield Cinemas Customer Appreciation Day this Saturday!

 

Smithfield Cinemas invites you to their Customer Appreciation Day this Saturday, November 16th. All day long, enjoy $.15 popcorn and drinks (NOT A TYPO)! Plus, all first responders who wear their uniform or show ID get in FREE! Our friends at Country Superstars 102.3 will broadcast live from 12-2pm and you can register to win a movie party for up to 15 people, including refreshments.

"Gobble Waddle"

Saturday in Downtown Smithfield

 

The 11th Annual Johnston Health Gobble Waddle, presented by HealthQuest Fitness and Wellness Center, takes place this Saturday beginning at 9am. It is a timed run and fun walk event for all ages and fitness levels – definitely family, stroller, and dog friendly.

 

All participants are asked to bring at least five items of canned food to the event or drop them off at HealthQuest. Canned goods will be donated to our partner food bank agencies right here in our community.

 

Online registration ends TODAY at 5:00pm; onsite registration will also be available.

 

The Gobble Waddle is part of the Johnston Health Race Series.

 

 

"Tar Heel Traveler" at

Johnston County Heritage Center

 

The Johnston County Heritage Center in Smithfield will host a book signing by author Scott Mason on Saturday, November 16, from 11am to 2pm. Mason will have copies of his newest book, Tar Heel Traveler: New Journeys Across North Carolina, as well as other popular books he has written about North Carolina cuisine and encounters with unique individuals throughout the state. His book Faith and Air: The Miracle List (2017), includes a miracle story about Johnston County’s own J. D. Lancaster, a Pearl Harbor survivor.

 

On the following Saturday, November 23 at 11am, the Heritage Center will unveil its next exhibit, “A Generation Goes to War, 1941-1945.” The displays will feature direct quotes from Johnston County soldiers and other local individuals who experienced the Second World War.

Another Win for the Spartan Regiment!

 

Another weekend equals another big win for the Smithfield-Selma High School Marching Band! On November 2nd, the Spartan Regiment were crowned

Grand Champions at the 2019 Crystal Coast Band Classic. Go Spartans!

 

If you have not had the chance to see this awesome band perform, you can do so at this year's Smithfield Christmas Parade on December 12th at 7pm!

Neuse Charter Senior Selected as National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist

 

Congratulations to Neuse Charter School's Alicia Spencer, who was recently selected as a Semi-Finalist for the 2020 National Merit Scholarship. Alicia, who also runs track for the Cougars, was selected from over 1.5 million students for her high PSAT/NMSQT scores. If selected as a winner, Spencer will receive $2,500 towards her freshman year of college. Way to go, Alicia!

Smithfield Christmas Tree Lighting December 5th

 

Join us for Smithfield's Christmas Tree Lighting from 7-8pm on Thursday, December 5 at the corner of Third and Market streets. With performances by local choruses, bands, and dance groups, cookie decorating, hot chocolate, a chance to win prizes, and other fun games and activities. This event offers something for the entire family to get in the holiday spirit! Plus, a special visitor from the North Pole will help us light the tree!
